BIS #1877 TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO

Fr. William Falcao sdb
MUMBAI, JUNE 22, 2010: It was exactly twenty five years ago on June 22, (it is 12.20pm now as I write) that Fr. Cyril DeSouza and I arrived in Bhingar, Ahmednagar.
Fr. Cyril, Fr.Francis Kharjia, and Aurelio Dias and I began our historic journey on June 21, at about 9am. Fr. Cyril, the then Rector of DBYC Pune, offered to take us by his car. At about 10am the car broke down at Kondhapuri along the Nagar Road. With great difficulty the car was towed to Shirur, but could not be repaired till evening. Fr. Francis and Aurelio decided to return immediately as the SSC results were expected the following day. Fr. Cyril and I had to stay in an old dirty lodge and left the next day with a car duly repaired, for Nagar to reach Bhingar at about noon. The parishioners along with the Parish Priest Fr. Felix Jacob (A Swiss Jesuit) and Asst. Fr.Jesu Anthony (a diocesan priest) were busy preparing for the Parish Feast on the following day (Sunday).
Earlier during the week ( on June 15 or 16 )Fr. Chrysanthus Saldanha , the Provincial had visited me and requested me to wrap up my responsibilities as the administrator, farm manager and the school, just beginning , and meet Bishop Valerian in Pune to move on to Bhingar.

Now in these twenty five years a lot of water has flown in the Seena River. Let us thank God, our Blessed Mother and Don Bosco for the many Salesians who have done marvelous work there and touched the lives of numerous needy young people and kept the Salesian flag flying high in Ahmednagar.
