BIS #2808 DON BOSCO YOUTH SERVICES AND KHALSA COLLEGE - BUILDING BRIDGES iDARE

Fr. Lowe Glenford sdb

MATUNGA, FEBRUARY 10, 2012: The Provincial House Community, as part of its neighbourhood apostolate, often discussed the possibility of reaching out to young adults. Finally, after looking at a number of opportunities and possibilities, Fr. Brian Moras and Fr. Savio Silveira made the first step of contacting Vice Principal, Khalsa College, Mr. Allan DSouza. The initial breakthrough was made, the doors were open and the DBYS - Khalsa College connection began.
Khalsa College is just opposite the Don Bosco Youth Services But, it was a road less travelled. In the year of their Platinum Jubilee, the entry of DBYS is a gift to the young adults there. Twelve sessions were offered to the DBYS team to animate, challenge and motivate the young students to make a 'leap in quality' in their life and neighbourhood. iDARE was the program offered to them. Frs. Savio Silveira, Glenford Lowe and Brian Moras animated the sessions. Dr. Fabian Almeida, Consultant Psychiatrist Prafulta, also animated a session for the young students.
The resource persons very ably handled various sessions of interest for the students. Over eighty students from the First and Second Year Business Financial Market and Business Banking Insurance had signed up for the iDARE sessions. The iDARE program was conducted in the College audiovisual hall immediately after their regular lectures in the afternoon.
At the final session, Vice Principal, Mr. D'Souza summed up the iDARE program with the words, "The DBYS–Khalsa Bridge has now been built. Let not the road divide us again. We look forward to many more such programs. Seven thousand students await your services".  We have looked at programs wherein we can connect with the youngsters in the future.
One could feel the sense of gratitude from all the young students and their new commitment to make a difference in their own lives first, and in the college and neighbourhood too.
