MEGHA PATKAR VISITS DON BOSCO ALIRAJPUR

Cl. Sunil Pinto

ALIRAJPUR, JUNE 08, 2012: Don Bosco, Alirajpur was graced by the brief impromptu visit of iconic social worker, Megha Patkar, on June 07, 2012. Having halted the previous night at the house of Mr. Nawal Singh, one of our social workers, she promised to visit Don Bosco Alirajpur on completing her assignments in the villages of this district.

The simple sari clad woman with rimmed glasses loaded with grit, determination and an iron- will; often visits the villages of this district to listen to the grievances of the tribals and to fight for forest land which has been unjustly usurped by officials and politicians. Fondly addressed as "Didi", her herculean effort to induce change has made her a beacon of hope.

She arrived on the campus at about 5:30pm and was graciously welcomed by the staff and community of Don Bosco Alirajpur. Sipping a hot cup of tea she interacted with Fr. Leslie, Bro. Melvyn and the staff of the development office. We presented a power point highlighting the works and activities of our institution in the neighbouring villages. Ms. Patkar heaped praises for our efforts in catering to the needs of the tribals through various educational and developmental projects. She left the campus in a short while convinced that good and sincere efforts were being made by our institution to uplift and empower the tribals.

Being a celebrity of sorts in the field of social work, she never displayed an iota of pride nor demonstrated her works, achievements or laurels. Her Spartan lifestyle, genuine altruism and commitment to her mission edified all of us and left an indelible mark on our hearts and minds. May God always protect her and assist her in her various endeavours.
