DIVYADAAN-NASHIK, SEPTEMBER 13, 2012 :  On September 09, we at Divyadaan received the sorrowful news of the demise of Mrs. Annie D’souza, aged 73, the mother of our own Fr. Anton D’souza (now Rector and Parish priest of Yerwada) who served as an efficient administrator of our community a couple of years ago.

The Church was filled to capacity with the priests, nuns and also numerous parishioners from Nashik, Yerwada and Ahmednagar whose lives Mrs. Annie had touched either directly or indirectly through the ministry of her son. Salesians from Nashik, Mumbai and  Yerwada along with Frs. Elson Barretto and Ivan Rodrigues of the Provincial house were present to support the D’souza family in their grief. The brothers from Divyadaan along with some of the STI novices helped in the singing and animation of the mass.

Bishop Lourdes Daniel, the Bishop of Nashik diocese, celebrated the Eucharist where he preached on the various role Mothers play in our lives and the tremendous pain we feel at their loss. He also spoke of the faith of Mrs. Annie seen in the willing sacrifice of her son to the priesthood. He added how in her ill-health she insisted on walking in the procession at the Haregaon yatra a day before her sad demise due to a heart attack.

Later Fr. Savio D’souza addressed the congregation on behalf of the provincial expressing the heartfelt sympathies of our province and assuring the entire family of our prayers and support.  Fr. Anton too thanked all those present and spoke of how his mother had supported him throughout his journey to priesthood and even sacrificed, out of her little pension whenever he was in need.

At the end of the mass judging by the number of people present and the evident grief of many, it is safe to say that Mrs. Annie has led a truly faithful and fruitful Christian life.
