ONE PARISH, MANY CULTURES, ONE FAMILY

Fr. Vivian D'Souza

WADALA-MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 16, 2012 :   The Parish of Our Lady of Dolours, Wadala(W) celebrated the Parish Feast on Sunday, 11 November 2012. This was preceded by the Novena at which we reflected on the nine themes of the Lineamenta for the Year of Faith. The priests of the parish took turns along with Shelter Don Bosco and Fr. Cleophas to develop the theme for each day of the Novena.

It is noteworthy that this year we had a better attendance on all the days of the novena. The Feast day mass was celebrated by the noted Liturgist Fr. Savio Rodrigues from St. Paul’s church, Dadar, who was also on the committee for the preparation of the new missal for India. The Feast day mass was well animated by the Parish Council and the Liturgy group.

In the evening the parish community gathered together on our parish grounds for an evening of fun and togetherness. The evening began with the Parish Priest. Fr. Godfrey D’Sa giving us a short history of the parish, and in the process made us aware of our humble beginnings. It was really an eye opener for most of us. A choir group from the Sahar parish, ushered in the evening with a 20 minute presentation of gospel singing, taking us on a journey through life.

The Parish communities then came alive with a presentation of Tamil dance and the ever popular East Indian dances. The “wedding march’ then followed with the young and old lining up and moving in twos, fours, eights and sixteens …. It was a sight to behold!

Games for children then followed. Snacks were available in the canteen provided by the cultural cell. The floor was then open to those who wished to tap their feet and the basketball court was filled with the young and the old who waltzed and jived to their heart’s content with DJ Aurelius at the controls.

A game for couples rounded up the evening program, which concluded with Dinner provided to all the 400 odd parishioners and ex-parishioners who came in. The parishioners were thrilled that the parish team and the sisters joined in their fun and stayed on to almost the end of the function.

The Cultural Cell of the parish did a marvelous job in getting the grounds have a wedding appearance and for providing us with good snacks and dinner.
