LONAVLA-PUNE, FEBRUARY 05, 2013: Salesian confreres of the province of Mumbai began arriving at Don Bosco Lonavla this morning and afternoon to participate in the Fifteenth Provincial Chapter. The confreres and boys extended a warm welcome to the Sixty-four odd Salesians, and helped them find their lodgings and get settled.
At 5 pm, the chapter members gathered in the AV hall for the recollection preached by Fr. Francis D’Mello sj, former Jesuit provincial of Mumbai. He spoke on “Living the Radicalism of the Gospel” in keeping with the theme of the Twenty-seventh General Chapter: “Witnesses to the Radical Approach of the Gospel”. He elaborated that a radical is one who does everything with a totality of himself. He invited each confrere to seek to live a life of unquenchable enthusiasm, vibrant creativity, working from joy and gratitude.
There was an adoration at 7:15 pm on the terrace, where the preacher invited the confreres to look at the night sky and contemplate the immensity of the universe. It was a moment for each one to reflect not only the grandeur of creation, but also on the God of small things. The provincial gave the goodnight; he welcomed the confreres, shared news about the province and invited the confreres to continue reflecting on the insights of the recollection.
The community of Lonavla had a surprise item for the chapter members: a lively family circle where they serenaded the visitors with some band pieces and rock music – Gospel and secular... The chapter deliberations begin tomorrow, with the Provincial’s Report on the State of the Province and the presentation of drafts on the key topics: Mystics of the Spirit, Prophets of Fraternity and Servants of the Young.
