REFLECTING TOGETHER AT THE PROVINCIAL CHAPTER

BIS Correspondent

Don Bosco Lonavla, February 07, 2013:  The second day of the Provincial Chapter began with a well-animated meditation by Fr. Edwin D'Souza on the 'Preventive System of Don Bosco'. The Eucharist was presided by Fr. Ashley Miranda, who in his homily stressed upon how each one of us can be Mystics and Prophets by having love at the core of our being.

The first session for the day began at 9:15 am by invoking God's blessings, after which the moderator Fr. Valerian invited the Capitular Secretary Fr. Vinod Mascarenhas to take the roll call and to read out the minutes of the first day of the chapter  (5 February 2013). We then had the presentation of the Commission "Servants of the Young" by Frs. Glenford Lowe and Matthew Coutinho. The commission's report was well appreciated and received by the chapter members. An opportunity was given to the members to ask questions and to clarify issues pertaining to this particular theme.

After a short break, the members gathered again for the presentation of the commission dealing with "Province Matters" and chaired by Frs. Corlis Gonsalves and Savio D'Souza. Considering the length of the report, the session met again at 3:00 pm after the lunch break. Fr. Barnabe invited Fr. Joaquim Fernandes to come forward to share his experience of working in new areas.  Fr. Joaquim shared his experience at Tejprasarini where he learnt to multitask, network with other organisations and go beyond the limits of his formation. The Commission on Province Matters carried on till 4:30 pm with their presentation of proposals for updating the Provincial Directory. The evening session held at 6:15 pm was dedicated to discussion on the same proposals and further recommendations.

The evening adoration was animated by Fr. Isaac Arackaparambil, during which he also screened a documentary on the "Universal Solidarity Movement". It made us aware of how each one of us could be an agent of peace and solidarity if only we made the choice to do so. The goodnight talk was given by Fr. Orville Coutinho who shared his vocation story, and how the practice of sacramental ministry among his parishioners has been an enriching experience for him.
