by Trident Pereira

BOSCOWADI-UTTAN, MAY 7, 2014: Don Bosco Youth Services (DBYS) has been organising various camps for the youth. One such camp was, the Bosco Leadership Camp 2014 held at boscowadi, Uttan, from April 23-26 for boys from standards VIII-X. A young enthusiastic group of 59 campers gathered together at boscowadi from all over Mumbai and Vasai. The camp was animated by Frs Osborn Furtado and Cleophas Braganza, Brothers Dinesh and Felix and six other volunteers.

Day one started with few ice breaking games that helped them know one another. Each camper made a commitment which was to be followed throughout the camp. The youngsters also learnt to pitch tents with the help of the brothers and volunteers. The team building activities and games helped the campers to work as a team. Day two began with a morning meditation at the seashore. They reflected on God's Design and Dream for them, doubts and distress and identifying the Sign Posts and Landmarks in their lives. The session on 'Leadership and Leadershift' conducted by our young and talented, Bro Felix Almeida sdb, inculcated qualities of self-awareness, creativity, responsibility, time management and spiritual power through small games and activities. The treasure hunt and the walk to the light house was an exciting experience.

Day three began with morning yoga, to exercise their faith in mind and body, followed by an inspiring session on Christian Leadership conducted by Fr. Braganza. The campers went on a spiritual journey towards God, in the Labyrinth which was a maze like structure that facilitated the spiritual exercise of walking and reflecting about oneself, others, nature and God. The preparation of the Camp fire and making of the bhelpuri was a memorable one.

The leadership camp taught the campers to be good leaders in society. It helped to bring out the best from every camper and to discover the talent and ability hidden in them. It was also a wonderful opportunity for the volunteers to sharpen their skills in animating the children. Emily Dickenson once said"That it will not come again, is what makes life so beautiful"
