BIS # 4238 BAL MELA AT DBYC, PUNE

PUNE-MAHARASHTRA, NOVEMBER 19, 2014: To create a conscious child, who is the future of a better world, the MCJ sisters along with the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Jesus Youth organized a day long Bal Mela for the children from four bastis on the theme – 'Save Water' on November 16, 2014. 


'Our environment is under constant threat. We human beings have corrupted the earth and drained out her resources. We have mutilated life and have created a scarcity that has affected all walks of life. We have polluted the air, the land and made the source of life water impure.' The Mela began at the MCJ residence as the children from four bastis viz., Gadge Maharaj basti, Kawadewadi basti, Madari basti, Darodemala basti and marched in unison shouting slogans to save water. As the children reached the gates of the venue they were handed breakfast packets. 


At around 10:30 a.m. the Jesus Youth along with the youth from the parishes of Pune organized a 'craft' session for the children. The children learnt to make paper flowers and beautifully decorated plates. Lunch was served at mid-day, after which the children participated in the fete games organized by the brothers. After an enthralling hour of fun and competition, the children were entertained through a puppet show. The chief guest, Mrs. Vinita Wagaskar, the local corporator arrived later amidst funfare and drama. She was welcome along with her family members. 


As the children left the venue, they were handed a water bottle and a cup of ice cream. The children of the bastis had a thrilling experience. Moreover, the event imprinted on their young minds the importance of water and the need to save it.
