BIS #4480 CELEBRATING SAINT THOMAS, THE APOSTLE OF INDIA

by Felix Joseph

NASHIK, JUNE 6,2015:  Saint Thomas' famous words, 'My Lord and My God' rung aloud at Divyadaan, Nashik as they celebrated the feast of the famous saint on July 3.

Philosophy students from the Salesian province of Chennai - the city for whom Saint Thomas is a patron – prepared the liturgy for the solemn Feast mass.

Father Thomas Chalissary, the administrator, kept to the theme 'my lord and my God', as he celebrated the solemn Feast mass- which was also his name feast.

He highlighted that the Saint's doubt in the Risen Lord was not a philosophical enquiry but a personal encounter with Jesus.

He also interspersed his homily with historical details about Saint Thomas' mission to Syria and the Malabar coast in India.

Two MPh brothers , Ravi Kotte, of the Province of Hyderabad and Brother Jose Alunkal, of the Province of Bangalore, received their cassock during the mass. Father Robert Pen, the Rector blessed their cassocks and vested the brothers.

Special prayers were also said for the province of Chennai, beginning with the provincial, the confreres, cooperators and all the beneficiaries.

The day ended with an Adoration service, praying for our nation and reflecting on the responsibility of the consecrated people in India, in spreading the Gospel that was handed down by Saint Thomas.
