BIS #4842 NURTURING TEACHERS TO NUTURE STUDENTS

NAVI MUMBAI, JUNE 9, 2016: A seminar on Life Skills Management and Classroom Management was organised at Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul on June 3 and 4 for the school teachers. 


The seminar was conducted by the ex-staff of Kendriya Vidyalaya - Mitali Rudra,  retired principal,  Shakuntala Bajaj and Debjani Bose, retired senior school teachers. 

 

Day one, dealt with Life Skills Management, in which the teachers were taught about 10 Core Life Skills. They were self awareness, problem solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, decision making , effective communication, interpersonal skills, empathy, managing emotions and coping with stress.

 

The manner in which life skills affect the overall development of a student and a teacher's contribution towards building it, were discussed. The sessions were descriptive and made interesting with activities like read and enact the story, the self esteem test and find the life skills in the story, 'Tit For Tat'.


Day two, focused on Classroom Management, in which the teachers were taught about four different types of classroom management styles - Authoritarian, Authoritative, Laissez-faire and Indifferent Style.

 

The concepts were reinforced through group activities relating to discipline, asking permission, lining up, submitting copies, working in groups and organising work in note books.  

 

Other activities included Circle Time- played in the class to encourage discussions and to form opinions.

 

The seminars were a mix of theory and practice. It ended after two days of creativity and valuable insights, a mention of which was made in the Vote of Thanks proposed by the  coordinating supervisor, Vivena Rodrigues.
