NAVI MUMBAI, AUGUST 16, 2018: A skit and a dance drama were the main fixtures at the 72nd Independence Day celebrations at Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul.
Father Peter Gonsalves, the Chief Guest for the occasion unfurled the national flag.  The national anthem and the flag song echoed in the campus, as the assembled audience joined the school choir. A pledge for maintaining a 'plastic free Navi Mumbai' was taken as part of a social responsibility initiative, towards nature and the country.
Aanchal Kulkarni, from standard 10, delivered a speech that emphasised the need for valuing the freedom which was achieved after numerous sacrifices. A skit was presented by students of standards eight and nine, displaying the emotions of the Indian diaspora, who celebrate the day even though they are far-away from their motherland.
A dance drama 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara' showcased the unity in diversity of our country. Patriotic songs and dances added to the patriotic fervour.  Father Gonsalves in his speech emphasised the need to follow Gandhian principles of peace and unity among all sections of society.
