MUMBAI, OCT 4, 2018: Over 50 children and eight staff from Don Bosco Shelter, Wadala, Mumbai organised an awareness rally under the banner ‘Green city, clean city’ and also participated in a beach cleaning drive on October 2.

The group visited Shivaji Park to clean the beach, where the youth were divided into three groups, namely the Eco group, Scout group, and Swach Bharat group. All were guided to clean the beach, dump all the waste material in a given area, and segregate wet and dry garbage.

The main motto of the group was ‘Say no to plastic’.  They collected plastic, cloth, broken pots and idols. “I felt nice to clean the beach as I could understand practically how much pollution we do to our environment even today," Yuvraj Pandey, a boy from the Shelter, said.

Eijaz Khan, another youth, added: "I could visibly see how we are polluting our mother earth and how the sea creatures are being affected, which in turn will affect us in years to come."

Father Roshan Gonsalves, the administrator summed up the drive saying, “As Gandhiji said, that cleanliness is next to godliness, it is our moral duty to keep our surroundings clean and eco-friendly."
