BIS #5656 DON BOSCO MATUNGA VOTED TOP GREEN SCHOOL IN INDIA

MUMBAI, OCT 4, 2018: Matunga-based Don Bosco High School bagged a series of accolades in September, with the institution winning the Education World Grand Jury Award 2018 for being the #1 Green school in India, and also being ranked India's # 9, Maharashtra #5 and Mumbai's #4 Boys Day School in the Education World India School Rankings 2018-19.

The Salesians of Don Bosco are known for imparting quality education throughout the world and six Don Bosco
schools in the country featured in the top 40, with the Matunga institution heading the list. School coordinator, C Rai represented the school at the awards ceremony on September 28 and 29 at The Leela Ambience Gurgaon Hotel and Residences, Gurgaon.

A grand jury of well-informed educationists and educators rated and ranked over 800 nominated schools in 11 categories. The categories included Green Schools, STEAM Education Excellence, New Technologies Usage, Campus Architecture and Design, Community Outreach, Emerging High Potential Schools, Extraordinary Leadership, etc. The Education World Grand Jury Awards 2018 have been instituted for the first time to felicitate emerging schools making extraordinary efforts to introduce innovative 21st-century practices in primary-secondary education.

The Matunga institution is a member of Greenline, which is a movement that promotes a greener world.  The students of the school have participated in a few noteworthy projects, these included an Eco-bricks collection, where the students made eco-bricks with bottles. They won the BOTO prize for making 1730 eco-bricks, the highest amount, which provided proper sanitation facility in slums. The school has also led beach clean-ups and promoted awareness campaigns on the ban of plastic in Maharashtra.

“To be placed high up there and being acknowledged as one of the premier educational institutions of the country is indeed a special and proud moment,” Father Bernard Fernandes, the Principal, said, adding, “It is a major responsibility appropriated to us to sustain the good and innovative practices that touch the lives of thousands of students that pass through the portals of this school every year.”

Rai, who received the award, said, “There is no doubt that Don Bosco is a brand that is famous and revered in the country. We ought to be proud that we are part of this great legacy. Indeed we all are!”
