by Sunita D’Souza

MUMBAI,OCT 8, 2018: “I got a transplant nine-years-ago and since then I have had an absolutely normal lifestyle, with basic care which has to be taken,” Dipan Dalal, a kidney transplant recipient, and
an alumni from St. Joseph’s School, Wadala, said while highlighting the importance of an organ donors initiative organised by the Institution as part of the Centenary Year celebration.

The campaign ‘A Million Pledges’ began in the Centenary Year of St. Joseph’s High School (2016-2017). On September 29, past pupils from the Institution, Jiten Nagda and Pankaj Agarwal, addressed the 5th National Educational Conference of Don Bosco Schools (NECDBS) at Chennai SRM University, to promote ‘A Million Pledges’ campaign.

“Imagine over 98% of people on the waiting list will die unless they receive organs from the brain-dead,” Nagda said. He showed two videos to spread awareness about the gift of life through organ donation.

Agarwal then appealed to the principals to become brand ambassadors and flag bearers of this special campaign. A central committee of representatives within the Don Bosco family will be formed to create resources in every school, imparting the message of organ donation in the country and the world, setting a world record through the campaign ‘A Million Pledges’.

"God gave you life, you give life to others after your life, by donating your God-given organs,” Provincial Delegate of the Salesian Family, Father Diego Nunes, said.
