MUMBAI, JUNE 15, 2019: Given the boom in the real estate sector around India, Bosco Boys Home (BBH) Borivli joined forces with two firms to train students and masons of Palghar district to provide them with the essential know-how in production of thin-bed tile application on June 12.

Wacker Chemi India and Astarc collaborated with the Borivli Home and provided practical fieldwork experience to 25 students, masons, and contractors in the sector, keeping in mind the upgraded quality of real estate projects and continual growing need for skilled and quality labour.

The main objective of this programme was to introduce semi-skilled masons to better-skilled methods of laying tiles using Polymer-modified thin-bed tile adhesive. It is one of the many corporate social responsibility activities carried by the two companies to increase market awareness by collecting market data so as to come up with advanced tiling techniques. Varish Cardozo and Somnath Ghosh were the coordinators from Wacker Chemi India. Dhananjay Singh represented the Astarc Group.

“Some of the advantages of using Polymer-modified thin-bed mortar is that it saves 90% of sand and cement, fewer costs, less material needed, and less material to transport. It also saves 75% of working time in comparison with the rudimentary method,” Dr. Priti Pillai, the trainer and resource person for the programme, said.

The trainees were given practical examples and demos as well as a video presentation on the usefulness of thin-bed tile application. “I am very grateful and happy to be part of this training. It was very useful and informative,” Mangesh Gaikwad, a participant, said.

Father Corlis Gonsalves, the Director of BBH, stressed on the importance of the training, saying, “This programme is one of the many initiatives taken by BBH in ensuring to make the youngsters of today skilled, employable, independent, and responsible citizens.”
