NURTURING FAITH IN MARY
Cl. Rudolf D’Souza SDB
LONAVLA JULY 19, 2012: The aspirants of Std. XII and Post XII from Sodality of Mary Help of christians began a month long program of activities and events to honour Mother Mary. The theme for this year’s Marian month is “Let’s Nurture Faith in Mary” echoing “Let’s Nurture Nature” chosen theme of Don Bosco School and Junior College, Lonavla.
The Inauguration took place on the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel amidst a lot of grandeur around the statute of our Blessed Mother. The opening ceremony began with a procession in the church at 7:45 p.m. The captains of the different Marian teams carried the statue of our Blessed Mother placed it near the entrance. The Rector, Fr. Cletus D’Souza inaugurated the month by cutting the ribbon. The Prefect Studies, Fr. Lorenzo D’Souza released the calendar of activities and events for the Marian month. The Administrator Bro. Savio D’mello invested the captains of the teams. Fr. Cletus then spoke to the gathering explaining to them the significance of having an entire month dedicated to Mary. This is an inseparable part of the tradition in every Salesian house and an assured means to lead us to Jesus. He exhorted everyone gathered to choose for himself a way of increasing his devotion to Mary during this month. A lamp was then lit by the Staff, Sodality leaders and all captains. After this, one of the aspirants delivered a sermon sharing Mary’s intervention in his life. There was also a poem recited by one of the apostolic boys. The inauguration ceremony ended with the singing of the Marian Anthem composed by the members of the Sodality themselves.
The evening was a result of a lot of hard work put in by the aspirants. They hope to nurture faith in Mary through bhajan services, poetry, skit competitions, serenades, sermons, tournaments and various other activities planned for the month which will conclude on the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady on August 15, 2012. Everybody felt deeply initiated in devotion to Mary and all hope to see themselves coming closer to Christ through the intercession of Mary.
