KAWANT, JUNE 15, 2008: June 13, 2008 was a momentous day for the house of Don Bosco Kawant! Our Provincial, Fr. Michael Fernandes, arrived here in the evening and was warmly welcomed by the Salesians, the staff and the boys. The boys sang a welcome song with much gusto and showered him with flowers, happy that the Provincial was in their midst. Certainly this was not just a casual visit, he was here to install the new Rector, and that added to the sparkle and the solemnity of his coming. At 7.00 pm, the Provincial launched a ‘plantation drive’, planting the first sapling himself. This was symbolic of the new year that was just beginning. The official installation ceremony of the new Rector, Fr. Gregory Almeida began at 7.30 pm. Several Salesians from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh were present for the occasion. Interestingly, Fr. Gregory did his Practical Training here at Kawant in 1995, and now, 13 years later, he takes over as Rector. During the ceremony, the Provincial explained the role of the Rector, stressing that he is the animator and spiritual guide of the community. Proposing the vote of thanks, Fr. Gregory expressed his gratitude to the Provincial for entrusting him with this new responsibility. Don Bosco Kawant now looks forward to a new disha under the leadership of their young and dynamic Rector.
