JAITALA, JULY 26, 2008: A grand felicitation programme was organized for the three Silver Jubilarians - Fr. Francis Kharjia, Fr. Diego Nunes and Fr. Elson Barretto. These three stalwarts of our province who complete 25 years of priestly life this year, made a spiritual retreat at Bishop’s House Amravati, under the guidance of Bishop Lourdes Daniel, and then arrived at Jaitala on July 18, where they were accorded a hearty welcome. It was indeed a homecoming for them – Fr. Kharjia was the pioneer of this institution and spent seven glorious years here from 1989 to 1996 as Parish Priest, Principal and Superior of the Community; Fr. Diego too rendered his service to this institution for a year; Fr. Elson visited and supported this place when he was Provincial Councillor. And so being back was a moment of great joy, both, for them and for the people. On Saturday, July 19, the school staff and students organized the felicitation programme. The students gave of their best, putting their dramatic and creative talents to full use, as they performed on the stage. The following day, Sunday, July 20, it was the turn of the parish to host the celebrations. The parish church overflowed with happy faces as all the parishioners made it a point to be present for this momentous occasion. The two-hour long Eucharistic celebration was solemnized through well animated prayers and lively singing. We lift up our hearts and voices, thanking God for the gift of these three priests, and for the privilege of having had them in our midst as they celebrate their silver year!
