lso given skills training in nursing, vermiculture, gardening and cooking. Mrs Kailashben Rathwa was their instructor and Mrs. Elvina came in at the last lap of the course to give them a glimpse of Fashion Designing. They were taught different fancy stitches, crochet and garment designing. The girls learnt to stitch baby dresses, cholis, skirts, salwar Kameej, trousers and finally a dress for themselves. Each of them was given a performance certificate and a sewing machine to start their very own enterprise in their villages. Now that’s what we call ‘power to the women’. Since the buzzword in the tribal belt now is ‘Watershed’, on Monday, September 29, we organized a training workshop for the field staff of Alirajpur, Chhota, Kawant and Narukot on this topic. The participants were grilled from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on the so
cial and technical aspects of Watershed by Mr. Sunil Chakre, the Development Office agricultural engineer stationed at Chhota. Some villagers also came along to attend the workshop as they are about to initiate watershed projects under the aegis of NABARD in their respective villages. They did have a problem comprehending the jargon, but were eager to learn. Micro project are sustainable, eco friendly and people oriented, unlike the macro ones which lead to destruction of environment and communities. It’s a pity our policy makers don’t realise this...!
