BIS # 1137 KAWANT CELEBRATES PARISH FEAST

Gregory Almeida sdb KAWANT, OCTOBER 6, 2008: Sahayak Mata Parish, Kawant, celebrated its feast on Sunday, October 5, 2008. The preparations began earlier with the nine days novena, preached by Salesians from the different centres in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. On each day of the novena one of the virtues of our Blessed Mother was highlighted. Different families from the parish offered Mass and the community made it a point to pray for their intentions. The liturgy on each of the novena days was animated by the different parish groups. On the feast day, the solemn celebration began with the procession, during which the people prayed the rosary and sang bhajans. The principal celebrant for the Eucharist was Fr. Vincent Macwana, Secretary to the Bishop of Baroda. In his homily, he spoke eloquently on the motherly qualities of Mary and how her qualities of love, concern, service, fidelity and faith helped in bringing her closer to Jesus. To make this feast special, the parishioners and boarders offered various gifts during the Offertory, like Mass Vestments, Lectern, Altar Table, Notebooks, etc. It was a pleasant sight especially to see all the boarders offering something special to Our Lady for the many blessing they have received. A large number of past pupils too were present for the feast.
