BIS # 1120 DB NASHIK ORGANIZES MINI OLYMPICS

Diego Nunes sdb NASHIK, DECEMBER 17, 2008: The 'Don Bosco Inter School Mini Olympics 2008', held at Nashik, was indeed a spectacular event that won widespread acclaim. This mega sports event was flagged off at Horizon Academy by Advocate Nitin Thakre, Kumudini Bangera, Fr. Matthew Coutinho and Fr. Diego Nunes. It commenced with a ‘torch relay’ that passed through every participating school, before finally reaching Don Bosco. The Olympics were declared open by the Chief Guest Fr. Michael Fernandes, Provincial. In his address to the gathering, he emphasized the value of sports and games in one’s life. This was followed by an impressive march-past parade and an array of magnificent floats by the different participating schools. The theme song Udaan sung melodiously by the Salesian Brothers received a thunderous applause from the audience. The much awaited athletic events then took off. Among the girls, an athlete from Silver Oak, Mansi Kothawade, bagged the maximum prizes. Don Bosco was awarded ‘The Best March Past’ award and also declared the winner of the Inter School Olympics. Silver Oak won ‘The Best Float’ award while many sportspersons from Horizon Academy, St. Francis, Sacred Heart and Kilbil School won prizes for their exceptional performance in various track events. A breathtaking Closing Ceremony marked the grand finale to this memorable event.
