BIS # 1279 CONFIRMATIONS AT VIRAR PARISH

Virar Correspondent VIRAR, FEBRUARY 11, 2009: The prayer, “Come Holy Spirit, Come”, fervently echoed around the Resurrection Parish, Virar on February 9, as twenty four of our young parishioners received the Sacrament of Confirmation on that day. Bishop Thomas Dabre, the Shepherd of our Diocese, was present for this happy occasion and conferred the sacrament. In his homily, he reminded the youngsters that they form an important and vital part of the Church. He invited them to actively participate in the Church activities and thus contribute to the growth of the Church and the community. He appealed to parents to encourage and support the youth rather than criticizing them, and to see in them the future of the parish. During the offertory procession the candidates offered the letters which they had written. The letters contained a note on how they intend to concretely help the parish in the future. The entire liturgy was well animated, thanks to the Catechism teachers and their assistants. A special thanks to Sr. Pushpa and Alex Lokanathan who prepared the candidates for the sacrament of Confirmation. At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, Fr. Blany Pinto thanked Bishop Dabre for confirming the children and he requested the parishioners to pray that God may continue to support and guide the Bishop in shepherding his flock. Finally, the candidates were given certificates and a gift. The ‘Faith Journey’ of these 24 youngsters will now continue as they strive to contribute their time and their talent towards the growth of the parish.
