BIS # 1281 WORLD MARRIAGE DAY CELEBRATED AT JYOTI

Bento D’Souza sdb JYOTI, FEBRUARY 12, 2009: World Marriage Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of every year. The Jyotiites began the day with a procession of couples into their Parish Church to celebrate a specially prepared liturgy. Fr Milton Gonsalves, the Director of the Diocesan Family Cell, officiated and preached a practical homily on the issues faced by Catholic Couples in Vasai. Offering of symbolic gifts and presentation of wedding albums were the highlights of the celebration. After this, all the couples renewed their Promise to be committed to each others, their children and their parish church. After Communion, a thanksgiving prayer was recited to thank God for the gift of married life. Excitement was in the air as all couples waited for the cultural programme to begin. To the strains of the march, 56 couples trooped into the spacious hall. The welcome was expressed through presentation of roses which the men placed on the hair of their wives. The Chief Guests for the occasion were Walter and Priscilla who have reached the 22nd milestone on the marriage journey. The games that followed were enjoyed by all the couples. The climax of the day was the cutting of the wedding cake followed by a well prepared toast by Mr. Walter D’Mello. Finally, prizes were distributed, a vote of thanks was proposed, and the couples returned home happy to have relived memories of their wedding day.
