BIS # 1293 - BOKADIA CELEBRATES!

Lyra Pinto ALIRAJPUR, FEBRUARY 23, 2009: Through games, dances, song and celebration, the staff of Alirajpur Shaikshanik Samajik Kendra (ASSK) and the people of Guraad faliya in Bokadia village came together on Sunday, February 22, to get to know each other better and to celebrate the progress of the children enrolled in the Village Education Class. The day began with games for the children, and after a few events, the adults too couldn’t resist joining in! Right from the oldest women in the faliya to the smallest child in the class, every participant was eager to show off their sporting abilities. In all, about 40 children and 20 adults enthusiastically took to the field in individual and team games. The highlight of the day was the tug-of-war for the adults, with the women, too, proving their strength and confidence. After the prizes were distributed by the elders of the faliya, the women started an impromptu song and dance session which continued for over an hour. The get-together ended with the people resolving to send the children regularly for classes and to continue the work they have already begun to secure the implementation of the NREGA in their village. Most important, this day of celebration gave ASSK and the people of Bokadia a chance to strengthen their relationship and deepen their resolve to work together to claim their rights.
