BIS #1348 - ANOTHER FRUITFUL YEAR AT PUNE CATECHETICAL CENTRE

PUNE, APRIL 7, 2009: At the Salesian Catechetical Centre, Pune, we closed another fruitful year of faith formation activity. In March we conducted two very fruitful evaluations, of both, the School and Sunday School Catechesis. While we are still struggling to compile a suitable syllabus, the teachers with great dedication helped the youngsters to a deeper understanding and regular reading of the Bible. Two Annual Lenten Retreats, which were both conducted by Bp. Valerian D’Souza, brought together 303 teachers from all over Pune. They went back renewed after a well organized programme which included a talk by the Bishop on the Word of God, the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Lectio Divina, a power point meditation on the Way of the Cross and the Eucharist celebrated by the Bishop. [Bp. Thomas Dabre is the newly appointed Bishop of Poona now.]

We are still to hold two important evaluation meetings in April, with the Principals of the Schools and the Parish Priests. This year the ministry of catechesis in the Diocese has evoked the realization of a greater need for Adult Catechesis, reaching out especially to parents and teachers. The celebration of the Diocesan Yesu Utsav in January further highlighted this priority that the Diocese needs to take up.
