BIS #1355 - SPORTS EXTRAVAGANZA AT MATUNGA

Crescens Lemos sdb MATUNGA, APRIL 16, 2009: If it’s summer time, it’s got to be sports time! And in Mumbai the obvious arena for all the big sports action is Don Bosco Matunga. Yes, the campus is sprawling with enthusiastic girls and boys who have set their hearts on becoming India’s next generation of sports stars. Summer Camp ’09 was declared open on April 14, by Fr. Crispino D’Souza, Principal of DB Matunga. Fr. Crispino, who is himself a great sports enthusiast and a renowned basket ball player, reminded the children that sports is a means to develop self-discipline. He encouraged them to be regular for the coaching and to give of their very best. The Summer Camp includes coaching in a variety of games, such as football, hockey, volleyball, cricket, judo and roller-skating. This year coaching in gymnastics and chess has also been introduced. A set of highly professional coaches have been entrusted the responsibility of training these eager children. All the students of Don Bosco look forward to the summer coaching since players for the school teams are normally selected during this camp. Looking at the passion with which the children have thrown themselves into the coaching, not only will they make it to the school teams, someday we will probably see them in the Indian teams too!
