Renold Lemos sdb JYOTI, APRIL 17, 2009: The traditional ‘English Castle’ began at Jyoti on April 13, 2009. A batch of 30 students who have recently appeared for the SSC exam have registered for this course. The ‘Castle’ got underway with Fr. Bento D’Souza, the chief coordinator, welcoming the students and declaring the programme open. A team of young Salesians and other volunteers from the parish are assisting Fr. Bento in conducting the classes. The focus will be on grammar, vocabulary and conversational skills. Besides the English classes, the youngsters participating in this residential programme will be treated to a variety of other educational and recreational activities. Next, on April 15, the Summer Club for the parish children was inaugurated. Cl. Renold Lomos and the youth volunteers welcome the 35 eager children who have enrolled for this club. Fr. Gregory D'Cunha, Parish Priest, declared the Summer Club open. He encouraged every child to participate wholeheartedly in the activities and to create a bond of friendship among themselves. A huge number of exciting activities have been planned for the children. Besides games, a variety of trainings and competitions that will help the integral development of the children, are on the itinerary. Earlier, on Easter Sunday, the youth organized a ‘Fun Fete’ for the parishioners. Stalls selling eatables, as well as games stalls, were put up by the youngsters. Later in the evening, singing, dancing and fancy dress competitions were held. Fr. Blany Pinto and Fr. Edwin Colaco were the judges for the competitions and also gave away the prizes to the winners. This ‘Easter Dhamaka’ helped make the day truly memorable!
