BIS #1389 - SUMMER CAMP WITH A DIFFERENCE

Conrad Cabral BORIVLI, MAY 27, 2009: “Time, when utilized to the fullest for productive work, brings satisfaction to those who give of their best.” This was the message given by the animators and volunteers at the closing ceremony of ‘Marian Joy’ – a fun filled summer camp conducted by the Neighbourhood Youth Group of Gorai and the 2009 batch of confirmation students. The camp was animated by Marilyn Vibhute, Conrad Cabral, Bobby Furtado and Jophin Mathai under the guidance of Fr. Ronnie Menezes and Fr. Allwyn Misquitta. Marian Joy was not just like any other summer camp. The children here were helped to understand the true meaning of team spirit and to give of their very best for their teams. Also, it was not just fun and games, but included outreach programmes, competitions, picnics, Marian quiz and praise and worship. The core of the entire programme was growing in Marian devotion, by following in the footsteps of our patron Don Bosco. The closing ceremony was held on the feast of Mary Help of Christians. The children put up a colourful programme comprising songs, dances and skits. Addressing the children during the programme, Fr. Ronnie told them that whenever they needed something that was really necessary for their lives, to pray to Our Lady just as Don Bosco did, and she would definitely fulfill their prayers. The parents were extremely happy that their children had this opportunity of spending their summer holidays in such a meaningful and profitable manner. The kids too were beaming with ‘Marian Joy’, grateful for all that they had learnt during the camp.
