MUMBAI, SEPTEMBER 2, 2009: On August 30, 2009, 130 children of Std. V & VI, from the Sunday School of seven different parishes met together at Don Bosco School, Matunga. They were accompanied by 14 teachers. The programme began at 9.00 am and concluded at 12.30 pm. The theme of the programme was Nutritional Food or Junk Food leading up to the Food for Eternal Life, the Eucharist. Each of the parishes accepted different responsibilities assigned to them.
Ms. Merryl Azavedo of Holy Cross, Lower Parel, presented a very informative and interesting session on the importance of Nutritional food as opposed to Junk food. Ms. Genevieve Fernandes of St. Paul’s, Dadar, brought out the great value of the Eucharist as the Bread for Life, with a meticulously prepared power point. The children were very attentive and actively participated in responding to the questions asked. They were earlier divided into 10 groups according to fruits and vegetables. Lloyd Nunes and Sheryl Dalgado led the children through the programme.
The celebration concluded with a meaningful Mass celebrated by Fr. Wilfred D’Souza, in which he summarized the inputs of the sessions and emphasized several points about participation in the Mass and reception of the Eucharist. The children and the catechists were honoured by the presence of the DCC Animator, Mrs. Myola Gomes.
