BORIVLI, SEPTEMPER 3, 2009: The Staff of the Secondary Section at Don Bosco, Borivli spontaneously decided to celebrate the festival of Onam on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. As part of this celebration, the teachers decided on a dress code and almost all of them dressed in the traditional cream and gold Onam saris. A few of the teachers prepared a beautiful carpet of flowers in the staffroom with a samai in the centre. The morning began with one of the teachers giving an informative ‘Morning Talk’ to the students over the intercom, on the history and significance of the festival, and the various traditional ways in which it is celebrated. To add to the festive feeling, two teachers originally from Kerala, provided the snacks of banana and jackfruit wafers and two different varieties of payasam, which had been lovingly and painstakingly prepared and which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The Principal, Fr. George Carlos and Fr. Anthony Goel also joined in the small celebration during the regular break.
This impromptu celebration gave every single member of the staff an opportunity to learn a little more about our wonderfully beautiful Indian culture and was also a good way to strengthen the familial bond that exists among the staff, as they got an opportunity to enjoy a few moments of fellowship in the midst of a busy school day.
