NASHIK, JUNE 12, 2010: Don Bosco School, Nashik organized a three days workshop, an initiative of the Principal Fr. Diego Nunis. The workshop was conducted by Fr Ajoy Fernandes and Fr. Glenford Lowe. Fr Ajoy conducted a one of its kind workshop on “Academic Problems of Children with Learning Disability” for the first time in the Province for the teachers of Don Bosco High School, Nashik on June 9 and June 10, 2010 and Fr Glen a one day session on the issue of “Children attempting to die of Suicide.”
The Workshop was extremely technical and informative. Fr Ajoy with his years of experience of clinical Psychology made the workshop simple and fun yet at the same time practical for the teachers. The workshop was attended by forty two teachers and three brothers. In this workshop Fr. Ajoy highlighted some of the academic problems of students such as: Slow learners, Learning disability, Sensory processing disorder and Attention deficit/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

In today’s school environment we find many students having learning disability. This workshop was a great help for the teachers to help such kind of students not by labeling them or putting them down but by helping them and understanding them better.

Fr. Glen in his workshop stressed on the issue of suicide and highlighted the various causes that lead the youngsters to commit suicide. As educators of the young, it is our duty to understand the students and listen to them. This workshop was an encouragement for all the teachers to understand the students, believe in them and love them. It is right that life is more than an exam but by understanding the students and accompanying them in their problems we can make a difference in their lives.

As educators of the young let us give a listening ear to the child’s plea:

“Don’t just teach me…. reach me!”
“If I can’t learn the way you teach, teach me the way I learn.”
