NARUKOT, AUGUST 5, 2010: On July 26, a Bhajan service was organized for the village youth of Zaleriya, in the Panchamal district, at the twilights of the late evening from 8pm to 12pm around twenty-five youth of the village joined in the service in spite of their heavy workload caused by the seasonal farming. The youth sang their cultural bhajans and kept themselves busy in chanting praises to their God who is their sustainer, creator and redeemer. The unique feature of this group was that they were not only from Christian religion. This diversity led to the flow of many cultural bhajans which made them appreciate their folk culture and their ancestral compositions.
Village master Jesudas Parmar, conducted this gathering under the guidance of Fr. Stanny Ferriera, the Rector and in charge of the village work. Master Jesudas, then took this opportunity of gathered young people, who are said to be the torch bearers of today’s world, to inform them about the responsibilities and duties of Panchayati Raj, Gram Sabha and various Samittees. He spoke for a course of time on this section especially on the health, education and sanitation rights of the people and duties through the Panchayati Raj institutions.
The youth were enlightened by this information and are now ready to take appropriate steps to enhance their living conditions. They have been made aware of the various schemes of the village programs. They are looking for such many more initiatives from the Salesians of Narukot to make them more informed about their capabilities in their progress towards development.
It’s lately, that they understand that Democracy is of the people, by the people and for the people.
