MUMBAI, SEPTEMBER 18, 2010: As part of Mother Teresa’s Birth Centenary celebrations, the documentary film, ‘Mother Teresa’ to be screened at Rang Sharda, Bandra Reclamation on September 25, 2010 at 6pm. The event is organized by SIGNIS, Western Region. Bishop Ferdinand J. Fonseca would be the chief guest at the screening.
Renowned English actress Olivia Hussey plays Mother Teresa in this documentary directed by Fabrizio Costa. According to Sr. Phyllis Fernandes fma, President of SIGNIS, Western Region, “This film, ‘Mother Teresa’ is a part of Mother Teresa International Film Festival- 2010. It is our endeavor, like Mother’s work, to exhibit these movies in all parts of India and the World. Mother has a large following in Mumbai and hence we thought it was prudent to have a film on her shown in the city. There are over fourteen films as part of the festival and are available for screening till December 31, 2010 for schools and colleges. Those interested can get in touch with us.”
The movie, ‘Mother Teresa’ is set in the India of late 1940s. British rule has just come to an end but peace shuns the country. Riots rip the nation. The murderous confrontations between Hindus and Muslims take magnanimous proportion, particularly in Calcutta. Wrecked by poverty and the riots, Calcutta buckles under despair. But in the midst of all this misery one nun stands steadfast, following her calling to help love and bring hope to the poorest of the poor: Mother Teresa. This calling brings endless struggles, but Mother Teresa is unwilling to accept what others deem impossible. With support of some visionary friends and passionate young nuns, Mother Teresa fights fearlessly for the unloved and forgotten and finally succeeds in founding her own missionary order.
Since there are limited seats available at the auditorium, viewing of this film is by invitation only. The passes are free and are available on first come first basis. Those interested are requested to contact Tej-Prasarini, Don Bosco Communications, on 24150680/65007840 from 10:00 am – 5:30 pm.
MTIFF- 2010 is the third film Festival. Setting a new trend in International Film Festivals, MTIFF 2010- a SIGNIS Bengal initiative started way back in 2003. The first ever MTIFF was held in Kolkata to mark Mother’s beatification and a second MTIFF was held in Berhampore to mark her tenth death anniversary. MTIFF is absolutely a non-commercial in nature with free entry pass/cards and depends entirely on generous benefactors for unavoidable expenses like venue, screenings, publicity, printing and stationery, etc.
