BIS #2538 ST. ANNE'S CHURCH LEADS THE WAY- AHMEDNAGAR

AHMEDNAGAR, AUGUST 19, 2011: Taking into consideration the Anna Hazare drive for corruption, one comes to know the dearth of the problem.  Fr. Thomas D’Costa too had to repeatedly make rounds to the Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation for exemption from the property tax and finally he has achieved it.

On August 16, the Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation met with their standing committee members under the leadership of Mrs. Anita Rathod and discussed the nineteen relevant issues.  One of the issues that they dealt with was to exempt the religious worship place like St. Anne’s Church from property tax. Earlier Fr. D’Costa the Rector and the Parish Priest of St. Anne’s Church had submitted a request to exempt the Church from the property tax as it is a place of worship. Looking into the matter the corporation decided to exempt the Church of the property tax. This effort of getting exemption from the municipality has ripple effects as the corporation agrees that henceforth no religious worship places can be given exemption from the property tax.  The lonely effort of Fr. D’Costa has become now a boon for the other religious worship places to ask for this exemption.
We congratulate him for this hard work done and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.
