KUWAIT-NORTH ARABIAN VICARIATE, JULY 10, 2013: One of the benefits of seeking knowledge and truth in our lives is that we often cross paths with others who are conducting the very same search. Hailing from countries such as India, the U.K., Slovakia, the U.S., Canada, Lebanon and Australia, approximately 15 parishioners of the St. Therese of Child Jesus Church came together on a weekly basis, for the sole purpose of learning more about the catholic faith.
'Word on Fire' a DVD series which is written, produced and hosted by Father Robert Barron inspired and motivated the group. Using rich imagery and references to Catholic art, architecture, literature and music, the program examined the basic teachings of the Catholic faith, in ten one-hour sessions. The series covers topics such as the teachings of Jesus, the mystery of the liturgy and the Eucharist, the saints, types of prayer and the last things, to name only a few.
More than just improving the understanding and appreciation of the Catholic Church, this spiritual exercise also brought the participants closer as a group. Although a lot of serious theological discussions, questions and debates occurred during these sessions, there was also an equal amount of storytelling, laughter and camaraderie. Everyone truly looked forward to the Friday night meetings.
Since completing the 'Word on Fire' series, the group has begun the Lectio Divina, an activity which involves reading the week's Gospel, meditating on what it means to us personally, and sharing these reflections with each other. The goal is to bring a deeper and more personal understanding of the Gospel to each member of the group.
