MATUNGA-MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 5, 2013: A Seminar on Effective Parenting was held at Don Bosco High School, Matunga (primary section) on Sunday, 27 October 2013. This was an initiative taken by the Principal Fr. BoscoD`mello with Mayurpankh Child Guidance, Counselling and Training Centre, Mumbai. The parent's of students studying in Std. I to IV were invited to learn some positive parenting skills.

The Head Teacher of the primary section Mrs. Winifred Fernandes introduced the session with importance of positive parenting and a short prayer asking for God's help to guide parents along their parenting journey. Mrs. Neeru Chheda of Mayurpankh Child Guidance, Counselling and Training Centre, Mumbai and the in-house counsellor of the school then took over. Through a well-prepared power point presentation she made the parents realise that parenting is like gardening. It becomes effective through nurturing, sacrifices and enjoying this journey.

She introduced the parents to the different styles of parenting-Authoritarian, Permissive and Democratic. The parents through discussions came to the conclusion that a combination of all these styles would be the best to adopt in parenting. The A- Z of Parenting made the parents introspect on the art of parenting while the difficulties faced during Parenting made them share their views on an open platform in a question-answer session. Mrs. Neeru Chheda answered queries and encouraged the parents to alter some methods of parenting followed by them.

Fr. Bosco D'Mello concluded this session by thanking those present. This seminar has truly been an encouraging effort by the school to reach out to the parents and assist them in the challenging task of effective parenting.
