MUMBAI, SEP 3, 2018: It was a festival of debate, singing, art, quiz, elocution and spelling bee at the campus of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, as students participated in inter-house competitions at the Bosco Kala Utsav festival on August 30.
The participants debating for and against the motion exhibited a strong understanding of the topic Digital India - a boon. The debaters exhibited confidence in presenting statistics and validating data in their arguments before the audience and a panel of eminent jury members that included Parvinder Kaur, a professor from the neighbouring college.
Impressed with the thinking ability of the students, Kaur called for a greater exposure to debates to enhance wider reflection. "I would like Don Bosco students to interact with Khalsa College students at debates, plays, filmmaking programmes," she said. "In this way, they will be exposed to college life that will help them decide their college and career in the future."
The participants of the elocution competition showed perfect nuances that go into making a public speech interesting and captivating. The poise, self-confidence and praiseworthy articulation delivered by the speakers made the event a benchmark for the fellow students, also providing utmost satisfaction and pride to the teachers. Thresa Bosco, one of the judges at the elocution competition said, "The freedom of choice of topic was something new to me. The discipline was excellent."
To develop the artistic skills among the students, an inter-house art competition was organised for the children of grades 5 to 8 on topics related to the environment - save water, save trees etc. Students displayed great enthusiasm and artistic spirit during the competition. The art experts were all praise for the artistic and creative talent of the school.
A talent hunt competition was also organised which served as a platform for showcasing the inner creativity and skills of students who try their hand at music, art, games ranging from playing musical instruments, beatboxing, solving the Rubik's cube etc. The spelling bee and quiz competitions were the other engaging activities of the day that kept the children thinking, guessing and learning all the time.
