BIS #5662 A GRACE-FILLED VISIT TO REMEMBER

by Deacon Rudolf Dsouza

MUMBAI OCT 7, 2018: Shelter Don Bosco, Wadala (west) had the privilege of hosting the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Mumbai, Father Godfrey D’Souza during his visit to the community on October 5.

The Provincial began his official visitation to the community in the morning by first meeting the confreres of the community at 9.15 am. Father Gregory D’Almeida, the Rector, took the Provincial on a tour of the campus.

In the evening, he took time out to play a game of football with the boys and a little later he visited Bosco Care Centre at Antop Hill, Wadala (E) where the senior pupils of Shelter Don Bosco are housed. On returning he gave the boys a good thought on choosing the right role-models in life.

The next day an elaborate programme was organised by the boys with the help of the staff. Boys of different age groups performed three dances. The staff also performed two folk dances. Besides an address in two languages, the boys also enacted a hilarious skit on the perils of educating a child today.

The boy scouts of Shelter Home displayed their acrobatic skills through a physical drill which was live streamed on Facebook. The Provincial was impressed by the performances and particularly the finesse in the execution of each item.

Father D’Souza took the opportunity to tell the boys the story of a bucketful of crabs who were unsuccessful in coming out because of each one pulling down the other. He exhorted the boys to be steadfast in their goals and, unlike the crabs in the bucket, help each other in reaching their goals together. He then gave away prizes to those boys who excelled at studies.

“I feel honoured to be awarded by the Provincial himself. His visit to our community has truly added colour to our lives,” a youth said.

After the cultural programme, the Provincial met all the confreres once again and gave his final report on the community along with his recommendations. He was particularly appreciative of the warm welcome he received from the boys and the staff.
