MUMBAI, MAY 3, 2019: St. Joseph Industrial Training Institute (SJITI) housed in the sprawling Don Bosco Kurla campus collaborated and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) to train youth under Bachelor of Vocations Degree (Bvoc) Automobile Servicing Sector from June 2019.

The TISS-SVE has set up the school of Vocational Education (SVE) to provide immediate and definite interventions to improve skill levels of millions of youth through appropriate vocational training programmes.  The venture will help the Institution initiate a Bachelor of Vocations Degree (BVoc) for the first time in India.

The view of this work-integrated training programme (WITP) is to facilitate today’s youth to take up Industry relevant skills training which will help them to secure a better livelihood, thereby consequently enhancing the economy of the nation.

The aim of this programme is to ‘Earn while you Learn’ because by the sound skills the students can engage in job training at the real shop floor of the industry/company along with theory training in the classroom.  With this enhancement, the trainee is able to earn a modest stipend during this on the job training.

Through these interventions, the past pupils of SJITI, who have passed from Mechanic Motor Vehicle ITI programme will benefit from this scheme. The eligibility criteria for this programme is HSC /equivalent or SSC and 2 two years of ITI education or ITI educated who are currently working, without any age criteria.

The three-year programme of BVoc is designed to help the trainees qualify to a level of five, six and seven of National Skills Qualification Framework (NSFQ) which is equivalent to a diploma, advanced diploma, and BVoc degree.

This type of training enables those students who have dropped out from formal education after class 12, to pursue an education in the vocational stream, which gives them recognition in a vocational diploma/degree programme without having to leave their current jobs. It helps trainees/employees enrolled as students to undergo around 12 hours per week training in theory as well as practical whence on the job.

The practical training that is imparted by skill knowledge providers (SKP) is based on specifically defined learning outcomes. Examination and certification by TISS-SVE brings in the required rigour and promotes high standards. The training programme will begin in the month of July. The strength of each batch will be 30 trainees. This is a privilege which cannot be lost or neglected. Hence the avenue is left open for every youth to take advantage.
