NASHIK, JULY 9, 2008: “Leadership is Action not Position” was the theme for the installation of the new office bearers in Don Bosco School Nashik. The installation ceremony was held on July 7, 2008 as the school celebrated the feast of Dominic Savio – the little giant of sanctity. The chief guest for the function was Fr. Savio D’Souza – the recently appointed Rector of Divyadaan, Nashik. The guests were led into the hall with a ‘colour party’. The ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp and the garlanding of the portrait of Dominic Savio. The prayer service that followed was an earnest appeal for God’s blessings on the new leaders. The chanting of shlokas from the Rig Veda which speak about the role and responsibility of leaders brought home to all the respect due to leaders and the cooperation that will help them do their task well. It was then time for the solemn installation ceremony. The outgoing leaders accompanied the newly elected leaders to the stage and the flags and other insignia of office were handed over. Fr. Savio led the leaders in pledging their commitment to the task of guiding their fellow students and assisting in the smooth running of all school activities. The school captain, vice-captain, house captains and vice-captains of both the primary and secondary were then duly invested. Finally it was the turn of the class monitors to pledge their readiness to serve and lead. Addressing the students, Fr. Savio took his cue from the life of Dominic Savio, a young enthusiastic boy who did ordinary things in an extraordinary manner. He also summed up the role of a leader as one who acts with conviction and serves others. The program concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Fr. Diego Nunes the principal, and the awarding of the prize for the best house of the last academic year 2007-2008…and the winner was… the Savio House, after all it was their patron’s feast.
