BIS # 1037 PARENTS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS AT VIRAR

Loreen Fernandes
VIRAR, JULY 28, 2008: The feast of Saints Joaquim and Anne on July 26, better known as Parents’ Day, was joyfully celebrated in our parish. The evening began with a Children’s Mass, wherein the celebrant made the children aware of the important role parents play in molding them into good Christians and consequently the attitude of gratitude they need to have towards their parents and grand parents. This was followed by the Saturday evening Eucharistic celebration, during which the celebrant reminded us parents that we have to bring up our children with patience and understanding, having Mary and Joseph as our role models. Roses were given by the children to their parents as a token of affection and gratitude. This was followed by a cultural programme, the first of its kind in our parish on the occasion of parents’ day. The programme commenced with a group song, followed by a skit which emphasized the theme of selfless giving. There were two dances put up by our children, choreographed by our talented youngsters, which received a thunderous applause. The parable of the “Good Samaritan” was melodiously rendered through an entertaining musical item. The evening concluded with our parish priest Fr. Blany Pinto thanking all those who worked to make the evening a special one for us parents.
