BIS # 1038 CHILDREN CHARM PARENTS

Maria Goretti Fonseca
WADALA, JULY 28, 2008: It was an all out effort on the part of the children of the parish of Our Lady of Dolours, Wadala as they regaled their parents on July 27, 2008 with an evening of songs, skits, poetry recitation and dance as an expression of gratitude and thanksgiving, amply demonstrating the theme: ‘Parents – God’s gift to us’. The variety entertainment was replete with excitement and joy as it brought on stage in full strength children from the Sunday School from classes I through XI, who had under the able guidance of their teachers spent endless hours over the last fortnight training to put up their best performance, a divergence from their normal religious teaching. The programme began with the traditional aarti and the lighting of candles by a representative set of parents who also received cards and flowers from their children. Derrick and Wilma on behalf of all parents extended a warm welcome and led us in prayer. The little ones as well as the older children then showed their prowess in keeping step with the rhythm of dance music while the Confirmation class put across their message to parents of the need for interaction with their children through a thought provoking skit. The VII and VIII classes composed a touching poem about the love of parents, which they recited in chorus Mr Anand Castellino called for volunteers to help in conducting a programme for orphans on August 15, Independence Day. Parents were then led into the grand march by the very charming headmistress of St Joseph High School, Miss Nicole Britto. This was followed by some dancing and a round of housie. Spot prizes too were given out innovatively throughout the evening’s programme for the lucky couple wearing coloured coordinated clothes, for the lady with the longest pair of earrings and the most number of bangles besides to one wearing many-hued clothes. Since all good things come to an end the evening ended with goodies and snacks for all!
