Wyman Gonsalves sdb

MATUNGA, AUGUST 8, 2008: The annul meeting of the Administrators was held at Provincial House, yesterday August 7. The day began with the Eucharist at 9.00 am, at which Fr. Michael Fernandes, Provincial, was the principal celebrant. During the homily, Fr. Provincial invited the Administrators to reflect on the experience and encounter of Peter when Jesus asked him: “Who do you say I am?” The Provincial invited the group to growth in their work, relationships and personal life, with the Lord as their mentor. In the first session, Fr. John Alex sdb of the Chennai Province addressed the group on the theme ‘New Forms of Solidarity’. He began his talk by pointing out that “incentives are the basis of good economics” and that “everyone wants to be someone rather than just do something”. He further exhorted the group to build local capacities, build movements and build bridges to bring people together. In the next session, Mr. Lourdes Baptista and Mr. Khanolkar, a labour consultant, gave the Administrators guidelines in relation to wage structures and management. They pointed out that qualification, experience, capabilities, expertise and competence are aspects to look into in the employment sector. “Set wages for the job and not for the person” was the idea they stressed on. Mr. Khanolkar also dwelt on the legal provisions related to wage management. Addressing the gathering, Fr. Provincial appreciated the role of the Administrators and highlighted relevant sections of the Provincial Directory concerning administration. He reminded them that they were acting on behalf of the congregation. The final session of the day was conducted by Dr. Keith D’Souza, an acclaimed expert in organization management. He shared with the group his ideas on what it takes to build up an effective customer service. “Outstanding customer service is ultimately how you create an impact on the other”, pointed out Dr. Keith D’Souza.
