VIRAR, FEBRUARY 5, 2009: Excitement abounded in the air, the atmosphere was charged with vigour and enthusiasm, hundreds of eyes were glued to the play ground… yes this was the scene at Virar on Saturday, January 31, 2009, where the Don Bosco Rink Football Tournament was organized to honour the great lover of youth.
For the first time ever, Resurrection Parish organized on Open Football Tournament held on the occasion of the feast of our patron St. John Bosco. The two-day event began on Saturday, January 31, 2009. The long awaited tournament, in which 42 teams from Mumbai and Vasai participated, was inaugurated by Fr. Blany Pinto. The atmosphere was full of zest, energy and excitement. The parish youth managed the entire organization of the tournament and they were actively supported by the other parishioners. Fr. Edwin Colaco played an important role in organizing the event and made sure that everything was planned meticulously and executed to perfection. ‘V United’, a team from Vasai emerged winners scoring a solitary goal over Boca Juniors from Dadar.
Don Bosco must have indeed been very happy to see his feast being celebrated with more than 250 youth on the playground, an event unparalleled in the history of Virar parish.
