BIS # 1305 - MANOS UNIDAS VISITS COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Cinderella Coutinho AHMEDNAGAR, MARCH 2, 2009: The Don Bosco Community College at Ahmednagar was graced by the visit of Ms. Cecilia Gracias and Mr. Jacinto Garcia, on February 26, 2009. These distinguished guests were representatives of Manos Unidas, Spain, the Agency that has funded the establishment of this Community College. They were greeted with flowers and a welcome song at the entrance of the institution by the Director Fr. Anton D’Souza, the staff and the students. Fr. Anton D’Souza introduced the staff to the visitors and then ushered them into his office where they had a long meeting to discuss the progress of this project. The Manos Unidas representatives inquired about the setting up of the institution, the designing of the courses, and the present functioning of the college. They were especially interested in knowing if the training offered here was enhancing the employability of the youngsters. They were very happy with the information given to them by Fr. Anton about the number of youth who had passed through the college in the past year and their present employment status. The two guests then visited all the classrooms, workshops, the library and the audio visual hall, and interacted with the students. They expressed their satisfaction on seeing that most of the training facilities had been set up. The Community College was inaugurated on February 5, 2008, and has recently completed one year. It offers courses in Computers, Modern Office Secretary, Communicative English, Typing and Shorthand, Welding, Household Wiring and Motor Winding. The college aims at providing employment skills to the youth of the villages in Ahmednagar.
