BIS #1382 - SALESIAN PROCURE FOR SOUTH ASIA LAUNCHED

Louis Kumpiluvelil sdb NEW DELHI, MAY 24, 2009: Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the Regional Councilor for South Asia, announced today the launching of the Salesian Procure for South Asia, with Fr. George Menamparampil of the Dimapur Province as its Director. The offices of the Procure will be at the SPCSA Centre, New Delhi. The idea of starting a Procure for South Asia was the brainchild of Fr. Maria Arokiam, the Regional Councillor, and it is being launched with the blessings and encouragement of the Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chavez. It is “a significant step in our journey towards financial self-reliance”, said Fr. Kanaga, while launching this venture. It is expected to create economic synergy and foster greater solidarity among the provinces of the region. South Asia, comprising India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh, and having a population of over 1.2 billion, half of whom are below 30 years, is a region full of opportunities and challenges for the Salesians. The Salesian Family has over 1300 centres in South Asia.
