MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 3, 2009: Time out, team-foul, 3pointer, dunk, cheer leaders; SAVIO CUP 5 slams the courts of Don Bosco, Matunga. With 5 men’s team and four women’s team the tournament is all set to steal the show.

After four successful tournaments SAVIO CUP 5 has developed and evolved, reaching out to the school children as well. For the first time the Junior Savio Cup was held here at Don Bosco Matunga. 8 boys’ teams and 6 girl’s teams participated in the Junior Savio Cup knock-out tournament. And the winners were the host themselves, Don Bosco, Matunga defeating Our Lady of Perpetual Succor with a huge margin of 30 points.


The chief guest for the inaugural function was Fr. Elson Baretto, Provincial Economer of the Salesian province of Mumbai. He wished the teams to work as a team with a strategy and declared the Savio Cup 2009 open. The first day witnessed a match of the women’s team Maharashtra and Kerala. Of which Maharashtra emerged victorious. For the final match of the day it was the Railways the defending champions struggling against the Services. Beating the Railways with a margin of 20 points the Services proved that they are well-prepared this time.
