MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 11, 2009: St. Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute, the original institute to be established at the Don Bosco Centre for Learning, Kurla had more than sufficient reason to celebrate on Saturday, November 7, 2009 as the new extension block was formally inaugurated. Mr. Hans Jurgen Dorrich - CEO of Jugend Dritte Welt, Germany did the formal honours in the presence of Mr. Michael Mager - Vice-President of Grohe, Germany, Fr Michael Fernandes, Salesian Provincial of Mumbai and a host of other dignitaries from Germany, Salesians, collaborators, well-wishers, Staff and Faculty of DBCL, Kurla.
The newly extended wing comprises of well ventilated office space, a few brightly coloured classrooms and a sparkling new Computer Lab which will cater to the needs of various school dropouts, women from the neighbouring bastis enabling these to acquire basic and advanced hands-on training in both hardware as well as software applications. The extension block will enable the students to be placed on a single level making easier the access for entry as well as exit, while at the same time enhancing staff - student movability and interaction.
Well designed and strategically placed flex posters stating the values, aim and system of education as also information regards the various courses offered at SJITI, add to the overall luster of the new block. A summary presentation of the life of Don Bosco in ten posters gives one a bird’s eye view of the struggle, joys, and achievements of Don Bosco during his lifetime.
Along with the extension of a wing, the students also stand to benefit by way of a newly furbished reading room cum library, which will be a place for learning and leisure aided by multimedia presentations. The staff and students were all smiles at this latest development and are buoyed enough to go the extra mile to ensure that this ‘facelift’ is well worth the time, energy and financial investment in the years to come.
