MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 23, 2009: No Sports Day in Don Bosco, Matunga; what a nightmare for both the staff and students of Don Bosco Matunga. The Annual Sports day was scheduled for October 23- 24, 2009 was washed away by unprecedented showers. However it was decided that the sports day would be held after the children return from the Diwali vacation. November 12- 13, were the chosen dates for the annual sports festival however the deadly ‘Phyan’ swooshed over and dampened the grounds and the spirit of the staff and students. It was decided to cancel the sports festival since the rain gods were deadly against our sports festival.
In spite of the repeated efforts by the rain gods to stall the sports day the staff of Don Bosco, Matunga was more passionate to organize the sports day, thus the staff in collaboration with Fr. Roy worked in a clandestine manner and organized the sports day on November 18, 2009. The day began with a prayer and the oath of sportsmanship. Followed by a series of games like volley ball, football, rink football, and box- cricket etc. Each class had to compete with each other to emerge victorious in their own standard. The request programme was another highlight of the sports day. During the closing ceremony the winners of each division were handed a rolling trophy. This was also an occasion to felicitate our sportsmen who did us good in various fields of sports. Wayne Vaz was awarded the best sportsman of the year; he is also the captain of the under 16 football team which won the MSSA cup.
Run, jump, play and as the boys would shout and say Bosco Bosco Bosco DON BOSCO!!!
